KNOW YOUR THERAPIST

WHAT DID YOU GET YOUR DEGREE(S) IN AND WHERE FROM?

I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in social work from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Before working at Family Solutions Counseling, I worked at St. Alban’s Child EnrichmentCenter in Miami, Florida. I worked with children ages 0-5 years old from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I provided individualized treatment plans, play therapy sessions, social-emotional learning, and mindfulness activities to children who struggled with attachment issues, anxiety, anger, and loss. I thoroughly enjoyed working with such young children and helping them develop useful coping skills for years to come. Before working at St. Alban’s, I worked at several day programs that served individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and vision and hearing impairments. I provided individual and group counseling focusing on emotional well-being, goal attainment, communication, education, advocacy, and daily living skills. While working with this population, the main goal was the empowerment of the individual.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A THERAPIST?

Growing up, a few members of my family were struggling with mental health issues and addiction. While the other members of the family were struggling, my mother stepped in to support their children. This is when I realized that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others.

WHATS YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?

My therapeutic approach is to meet you where you are. You are the expert on your own life and experiences, and I am here to listen and walk with you at a pace set by you. I am here to help empower you and allow you to realize the potential and resilience that you have within yourself through the use of evidence-based practices and interventions.

WHAT KIND OF HOMEWORK OR ASSIGNMENTS DO YOU GIVE CLIENTS?

Every client has different needs and an individual therapeutic journey. In some cases, homework may help in attaining goals and processing specific topics. Homework and assignments will be discussed and agreed upon on a client to client basis. Homework is only meant to help further your therapeutic journey!

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION WITH YOU?

All that I ask of you is to come in with an open mind, speak your truth, and be honest and vulnerable. This is a safe and nonjudgmental place where we can make the changes that you would like to see.
