Whether you are a child, teen, or an adult. We all need to find the time to “ground” ourselves.
Anxiety, stress, and feeling overwhelmed happens often in our life. When you are in a test, at work, in an interview, or even driving, your bubble bath, or walking, and any other normal self-care might not be able to happen in that moment. So what do you do? Grounding can be done anytime, anywhere, and at any moment without anyone noticing.
Grounding is a useful technique that brings you back to the present and the “here and now”. The 5-4-3-2-1 exercise is great sensory awareness grounding exercise that so many have found helpful to help alleviate anxiety, relax, and get through difficult moments.
Here is how it works.
In this very moment what are…
5 things you can see
4 things you can feel/touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
Repeat these steps if necessary.
