Jonathan Strange
LCSW
(hablo español)
I’m Jonathan Strange, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and hypnotherapist. I deeply believe that successful therapy needs to focus on you as a whole human being and not just on your problem.
Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, or something else, these are obstacles I can help you overcome. Your challenges shouldn’t be allowed to define who you are as a person.
I am Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy trained. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a person-centered approach to therapy. What that means is that I use scientifically based methods, but always focus on the genuine personal connection with you.
I can work with anyone because I keep an open mind and never judge someone based on the problems they are going through.
TREATMENT APPROACH
I was born and raised in Utah. This is where I belong, where I took my education, and where I am now raising my own children. In addition to being a therapist, I am also an artist. I believe art and being creative has incredible healing powers for both young and old. It taps into different aspects of our mind, which can be incredibly helpful in a therapy setting. Sometimes we as human beings just need to let go of our rational thinking minds and use our creativity to work with our emotions. I find nothing more meaningful than helping others, and I have always been naturally curious about people. ‘Ordinary’ and ‘normal’ are not words that have any meaning to me. Instead of thinking of people as either “normal” or “ill,” I tend to think in terms of happiness and unhappiness. You can be “normal” in the clinical sense but still struggle with your identity or emotions. Just as you can have a diagnosis and still find happiness. My job is to help you feel positive emotions regardless of your challenges.
In the past, I have helped men struggling with living up to the impossible ideals of modern masculinity. I have helped teens deal with the pressure of a competitive educational system. I have helped women experience, often for the first time in their lives, what it feels like to build a safe relationship with a man. And I have helped struggling populations find their way to feel accepted. With my diverse experience, I believe that there are few issues that surprise me anymore. However, everyone is different and the most important part of therapy is that we connect on a personal level.
I currently practice in-person and offer online therapy in Utah.
