MORE ABOUT YESENIA
Pronouns: she/her/hers
My approach is grounded in the belief that you are not the problem. Life experiences and circumstances can create patterns that become difficult to manage. I integrate evidence-based approaches with Narrative Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy, recognizing clients as experts in their own lives while creating a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space. Together, clients explore the stories shaping their experiences, identify unhelpful patterns, and build practical tools for meaningful change.

KNOW YOUR THERAPIST
WHAT DID YOU GET YOUR DEGREE(S) IN AND WHERE FROM?
Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy, Capella University, 2024
Family Studies, Brigham Young University–Idaho, 2017
Bachelor’s Degree in Language Teaching, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, 2012
SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
I have worked as a therapist at The Family Place of Utah and have experience serving individuals, couples, families, and children from diverse backgrounds.
WHAT HAS SHAPED YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?
My journey toward becoming a therapist began during an internship in Mexico, where I taught at an orphanage. Learning about the hardships children had endured inspired me to pursue the education and clinical skills needed to provide meaningful support.
WHAT KIND OF HOMEWORK OR ASSIGNMENTS DO YOU GIVE CLIENTS?
Depending on each client’s goals, I may suggest self-care and self-compassion practices, mind-body-bridging mapping exercises, identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns, and cognitive reframing.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION WITH YOU?
No special preparation is required. Come as you are and share only what feels comfortable. The first session is an opportunity to discuss your goals and begin building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A THERAPIST?
My approach is evidence-based, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, narrative, and person-centered. I recognize each client as the expert in their own life and supports first-generation, immigrant, multicultural, Spanish-speaking, and other diverse communities.
